Satanic metal as therapy and other exciting news
Recently, Grieve Leave—an awesome resource for grief of all kinds, from death to job loss to breakups—asked me to write a blog post for them. I proposed an essay about how the Swedish Satanic metal band Ghost helped me grieve my father’s death. I did not expect them (or anyone else) to say yes to such a strange proposal. Yet here the essay is in all its glory.
Enormously grateful to Rebecca Feinglos and the Grieve Leave team for understanding that crying isn’t the only way to grieve. Sometimes it’s flying to Los Angeles to hang out with a near-stranger and screaming TikTok sensation “Mary on a Cross” at the top of your lungs.
I’ve written a lot of nonfiction this year, especially given my book deadline, but sometimes it’s nice to remember that I can write fiction, too. I’m pleased to share that my story from last October, “I Saw Goody Proctor Help the Devil Rotate a PDF,” has been nominated for Best of the Net by Paranoid Tree!
Feeling loved and appreciated these days. Thank you.
