A personals ad
Every summer, Kathy Fish holds a reunion for writers who’ve taken her Fast Flash workshop in the past; for three days in June she posts a prompt each morning, and the rest of us have at it, cheering on each other’s work as we go. My new personals ad for a deity, “SEEKING NEW GOD FOR AFTER COVID (AND BEYOND),” was born from this year’s Imperative Writing prompt. The Daily Drunk was kind enough to give it a home.
It was inspired by those stories that occasionally make the rounds online: a mediocre man seeking a girlfriend puts up flyers or posts with absurd, impossible-to-meet demands for the supposedly lucky lady. Double-D breasts, cook for him every night, must shower daily, etc. But I figured if anyone could meet such exacting standards, it would be a god, right?
Plus, after the hell that was 2020, a lot of people are looking for a new spiritual direction right now—understandably.
Anyway, I hope it makes you laugh.
